OIC 25th Anniversary
The year was 1992 and the U.S. equity options industry was suffering from persistently anemic options volume since the crash of 1987. Seeking to revitalize the market, OCC, the world’s largest equity derivatives clearing organization, and leaders from the U.S. options exchanges recognized that an educated investor was the key to growing the options market. OCC was uniquely positioned to lead such an effort as a trusted, unbiased and independent partner to all exchanges. Thus, The Options Industry Council (OIC) was formed. Its mission: to increase individual investor awareness and understanding of listed equity options in order to better use them as financial risk management tools.
